US Supreme Court on Same Sex Marriages in Utah
Today the United States Supreme Court made a decision that puts a hold on the issuance of marriage licenses to same sex couples in Utah. U.S. Federal District Judge Robert Shelby issued a ruling in December that stated that the Utah law banning same sex marriage conflicts with equal protection and due process. In light of this decision, hundreds of marriage licenses have been granted to same sex couples in Utah.
The Federal Court of Appeals has allowed the marriages to continue and will be taking up the issue in the next weeks. However, the US Supreme Court’s decision today will temporarily stop same sex marriages in Utah.
